The word “somatic” is derived from the Greek word “soma” which means living body. The experience of the living body is deeply nourishing, open and relaxed state of being in which we feel connected to ourselves, each other and the world.
Habitually our bodies hold on to past traumas which are reflected in our body language, posture and expressions. Through facilitated free subtle movement supported by lush ambient music and the sacred sounds of drums, didgeridoo, singing bowls, chimes and gongs, the nervous system can unwind and release held tension & habitual movements & thought patterns and again return to homeostasis and its natural open, relaxed state.
Will Softmore created and has been developing this unique and powerful subtle movement meditation over the course of many years’ enquiry into the felt experience of being a human body, informed by such practices as: Yoga, sitting meditation, Craniosacral Therapy, Contact Improvisation, Authentic Movement, Bioenergetics, sound healing and Vajrayana Tantra and it is constantly evolving and deepening.
Currently he offers these classes at festivals such as Colourfest in Dorset and Into the Wild in Sussex. He intends to start teaching regular classes in Bristol and elsewhere, as well as longer events and retreats. Watch this space for further details and future events.
